Shed Report August 2022

SHED REPORT TO COMMITTEE – AUGUST 2022

Participation

Covid 19 continues to effect attendance to some extent but between 20 and 25 members are attending.

Outside and Community Projects

Wakapuaka Cemetery Interpretive Panels

This project under the control of Richard and Mark started in February of this year but due to hold ups from the sign writers the project has just been completed.

Fellworth House Chair Repair

This antique chair was repaired by Wayne.

Waimarama Community Gardens Hen House.

This project started in 2021 but due to hold ups with material supplies and sponsorship has only just been completed.

Colin Johnstone was assisted by Peter Ilin, Trent, Richard Watson, Rob Thomas, Grant Pinkham and Grant Raven.

Outboard Motor Refurbishment

Rob Thomas has brought a 3hp Evinrude outboard motor belonging member Robert Leighs back to life. We are not sure what the future is for the motor but we believe the shed will benefit in some way.

Nelson Women’s Centre Lawn Mower

Rob Thomas has brought the lawn mower belonging to the Nelson Women’s Centre back to life. Wayne Logan also assisted with some minor machining work on this project.

Marlborough Early Childhood Play Kitchen

Wendy Logan brought a play kitchen from Marlborough which was surplus to requirements to be refurbished and donated to an Early Childhood Centre in Nelson.

Van Conversion

Wayne Logan, Richard Watson and Grant Pinkham have completed another of these projects for the Car Company.

Abbeyfield Seat

Mark Cox and Richard Watson completed an outside seat for Abbeyfield. It has now been installed and looks very smart with an artistic paint job to compliment the excellent workmanship.

Chatham Island Black Robin Transfer Boxes

Colin Johnstone and Peter IIin designed and built these boxes.

The shed should be proud to be involved in this worthwhile project as at one stage there were only three of these iconic birds in existence.

In-house projects

Concrete Float refurbishment

A donated petrol powered concrete float machine was refurbished by Robert Thomas. The float can now be sold to help with the shed funds.

Safety switches

Mike Gough is working his way through modifications to our electrical equipment to ensure that should we experience a power failure the machine will not restart accidentally when power is restored.

Occasional Tables

Robert Shade has built a number of small tables for the “Smoko” room which are proving to be a real hit.

Menzshed” Stencil

Peter Pennial at NMIT through Wayne Logan has produced a new larger stencil for labelling our products.

Member’s Projects

Sail Cover repair

Mike Gough resewed a sail cover and spray dodger for Wayne Logan.

A Frame fitting

Wayne Logan is helping Colin Johnstone modify an A frame towing unit.

Boats

Richard McBride, Ian Carpenter and Denis Moriarty continue with boat construction.

Caravans

Chris Gladstone has moved his caravan project home and Ron Briggs continues on at the shed.

Health and Safety

Mark Cox had a minor accident with a compound saw.

This accident has resulted in us reviewing the condition of some of our older equipment and we must be aware of the need to upgrade where appropriate.
